Surrounded by clear Canadian skies, pure lake waters and abundant forests, Deerhurst is committed to environmental responsibility and stewardship, both indoors and out.
In recognition of this Deerhurst has been awarded “4 Green Keys” (out of a possible 5) in the Hotel Association of Canada’s North America-wide Eco-Rating Program, a ranking that recognizes “national industry leadership…and wide ranging polices.”
Environmental mission statement
Deerhurst’s Green Mission addresses education, communication, purchasing, investment, monitoring and community; with a particular focus on doing all we can to reduce our consumption of water and energy, two of the largest environmental factors in hotel operations.
Green team
We’re proud to have an active Deerhurst employee Green Team with representation from departments throughout our resort. This volunteer group also supports local and global initiatives like highway clean-ups, Earth Day, and WWF’s Earth Hour.
Muskoka envirocredits
Deerhurst Resort has formed an alliance with Muskoka Envirocredits to off-set the impacts of area travel and protect the lakes and forests that make this region unique.

Savour muskoka
Deerhurst Executive Chef Rory Golden is a founding member and pioneer of the Savour Muskoka culinary trail dedicated to showcasing the finest backyard produce, eating local and minimizing our food footprint. Demonstrating our farm-to-fork commitment, Deerhurst is the only resort in North America to produce both our own maple syrup and honey, as well as harvesting herbs and shiitake mushrooms and foraging, on-site.
ECO INNOVATIONS AT DEERHURST
Because a lot of small, consistent actions can add up to a significant impact we continue to try and do things greener, daily, like:
- All Deerhurst kitchens compost their green waste on-site, also naturally enriching our flower beds and herb gardens
- Used cooking oil is recycled into bio-diesel, some of which is used to fuel our Hummer and rock buggy tours
- Tees at our Deerhurst Highlands golf course are now biodegradable
green meetings
Deerhurst is growing a menu of eco-friendly standards and options that work for groups of any size. Right now you can count on these green features:
- Guestroom bedding and towel reuse standards
- Temperature controls on all primary meeting spaces
- Meeting room recycling bins
- Biodegradable food & beverage take-out containers
- Eco-friendly water service options including the use of pitchers and glasses as opposed to plastic bottle
