tap into the joys of maple syrup

The whole family will have buckets of fun when Deerhurst Resort fires up its maple syrup operation, which has grown to almost 2,000 taps since it was launched 19 years ago. Each tap produces approximately 1,000 litres of sap, which sounds like a lot until you realize it takes 40 litres of sap to make just one litre of ‘liquid gold’ maple syrup.

Deerhurst’s sugar bush tours start with a wagon ride to the hardwood maple forest to see the old-fashioned way of collecting spa using buckets and spiggots. Then it’s back to the timbered sugar shack to see sap being condensed into syrup using a large, modern evaporator. The best part? Tasting maple treats around the campfire and making taffy pops in the snow. From pancake breakfast specials to maple-inspired spa treatments, it’s no wonder March Break is the sweetest time of the year at Deerhurst Resort.
